She does nothing but whine, complain (with the tone of a teenage valley girl BTW), and act extremely jealous and spiteful if she doesn't get her way. Book 2, however, was a huge disappointment. I have read all three books and have enjoyed books 1 and 3. In other words, she acts like a spoiled rotten/malicious child. Luciens love interest, Anya, is an extremely aggravating character. I found myself wanting her to disappear throughout the entire novel. I skipped mostly all of the parts with her in it and read to the end to find out what happened to Lucien and the other warriors. If you want to read book 3, I would just skip this one (or just the parts with Anya).
He is the guy responsible for the demons that make all his comrades suffer so much, but he ignores the obvious threat of an unknown stalker. I admit that I was shallow enough to buy this book because of the wonderful cover art. If romance novels are aimed for straight women who are reading it for temperature raising romance, alpha males and sexy men, why are so many of the covers with just half naked or totally naked women. He is supposed to be a great protector, alert for security breaches, loyal to his other endangered Lords of the Underworld. Then when Anya decides to fight for her life and actually stabs him in the temple and his gut and is about to decapitate him, he thinks this is the time to make love to her.Yuck. So I thought this cover meant a story that was going to be paranormal, romantic, alpha male loving adventure.I bought this book at the same time I bought the first 3 of the series.
Later when the Titan ruler tells Lucien to kill her, he knows the consequences of disobeying a Titan and yet he engages in all kinds of illogical, inane, stupid sex acts with Anya, the goddess of Discord and stops before anything really happens. Some of the cover art of a lot of romance novels is just boring and boring bodice ripping stuff. When she shows up at a nightclubby party where the Lords of the Underworld are and takes off her clothes, throws herself at him and gives him sex on the floor, Lucien acts like an idiot. After the first one bombed for me, I thought I would give the author another chance.Nope.Lucien, the god of Death is the most ridiculous character yet. Anya has been stalking him for weeks. "Coitus Interruptus" over and over again.
The writing is so bad, the plot so ridiculous that this series is why people don't take the good romance writers seriously.
You will love this book. If you are a fan of Black Dagger Brotherhood or Midnight Breed Series then you will really love these books too.
I'm loving Showalter's take on mythology and the exquisite taste in which she writes her stories.
I enjoyed the story of Anya and Lucien. This is one of the first books I've read by Gena Showalter and I am already a big fan. I enjoy books with strong female characters and interesting love stories and Ms. Since reading this, I've gotten all the books my library has by her. Her writing is funny and paced very well. Showalter delivers on both. I'd highly recommend this book.
